First no-kill animal shelter state

Delaware has become the first no-kill animal shelter state in the U.S., saving 90% or more of the homeless pets that enter the system.

It received the designation at the annual conference of the Best Friends Animal Society, an advocacy group that tracks shelter-euthanasia statistics state by state.

Some of the measures used have been mega adoption events, trap/neuter/spay programs for cats that otherwise wouldn’t be adoptable, low-cost veterinary clinics, education programs and behavioral programs.
